I think our house of representatives have took more time for making female as speaker. It is highly surprising that we got female speaker after more 60 yrs of Independence. It is not going to make any difference in house as today females are equally and more efficient then their males counterpart.

Ms. Kumar's elevation to the chair of Lok Sabha Speaker is being viewed not only as empowermment of women but also as empowerment of a Dalit women. It is a significant develpoment particularly at a time when there is no derth of women issues. Apart from this consensus between the ruling alliance and the main opposition is good symptom and may lead to some understanding in providing 33 per cent representation in Parliament and State Legislatures. How much impact it will put on raising of the women issues in the lower house will be known only months to come.

Even if opposed, it would raise another Dalit issue. Anyways, Indians need a reason to protest and burn public property.
